This checkbox should remain activated! (although there may be rare exceptions requiring it to be off.) This checkbox currently only affects the products. It has a different meaning for a new product than for a product which is being updated. Let's see both cases.
New product:
When activated, YourShop creates the new product for every language, assuming that the product has the same identity in all languages. (Your web client using the FrontStore may then switch languages, but stay on the same product). Importing the product in other languages will not create it, but update it. This means you do not need to provide all features such as stock, pictures, attachments, and downloads as all the independent language features are already in place.
Existing product:
When activated, YourShop will modify the thumbnails, pictures, attachments, and download files for all languages. This is useful if the thumbnails, pictures, attachments and download files are the same for all languages.
